Abstract

Jotham Townsend was a Long Island papermaker who did business as Townsend and Company. Receipt book records transactions from Sept. 14, 1796 to May 1, 1815. Entries describe type and quantity of paper as well as the price. Volume was later used as a receipt book by Micajah Townsend between 1822 and 1832.
